Liverpool 2-0 Brentford: Player Ratings
Liverpool comfortably won their first Anfield game of the season against Brentford with goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah.
Alisson Becker - 8. Similarly to last week at Ipswich, Alisson again had next to nothing to do against Brentford, especially in the second half. Although he did make an impressive save to stop James Collins’ header.
Trent Alexander-Arnold - 8. Another impressive performance from the Scouser in our team. He created the most chances in the game with four, and was solid defensively throughout.
Ibrahima Konate - 9. Solid. Never once looked under threat or uncomfortable. Completed the most passes in the game. Will start at Old Trafford next weekend barring an injury.
Virgil van Dijk - 8. A standard Virgil van Dijk performance: won all of his tackles and almost all of his duels, completed two long balls and could have even scored with a header.
Andrew Robertson - 8. An upgrade on his performance last week, was more of a presence in the game and even had a couple of opportunities to score.
Ryan Gravenberch - 9. Is steadily looking more comfortable in the 6 role with each game, if we include pre-season. He completed the most tackles with 3 in the game. Never really looked out of place in that position and Alexis Mac Allister is a massive help next to him. Next week will be the real test.
Alexis Mac Allister - 8. Another solid game from Mac Allister. He won a big seven duels in the game, the most. Again, looks a lot more comfortable with another 6 next to him.
Dominik Szoboszlai - 8. Created two chances, won two duels, made a tackle. He’s looking much more sharp and rounded since the end of last season in his new 10 role.
Mohamed Salah - 8. Another goal for Mo, and another good performance, although not just as good as his opener against Ipswich. It doesn’t matter as long as he finds the scoresheet, and he did, and does, a lot of the time.
Diogo Jota - 8. Played a big part in the opening goal, as he charged forward with the ball from Brentford’s corner and found Diaz with a great ball.
Luis Diaz - 10 (MOTM). That’s more like it! What a performance from Luis Diaz. I’m not alone in saying I didn’t expect him to score his chance on the counter, but he took his chance and finished past Flekken with his weak foot. He also found Mo Salah for his goal, and completed the joint most, four, chances in the game.
Conor Bradley - 7. Looked sharp off the bench again, but again, the game was already won when he came on.
Cody Gakpo - 7. Similar to Bradley, looked sharp and direct off the bench, but there wasn’t much more work to do. He did hit the bar, though.
Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott, Wataru Endo - 6. Useful subs to bring on when you need to keep a lead. Nunez is a good presser, Elliott kept the ball well and Endo plugged all the holes to ensure Liverpool kept their clean sheet.
